Surveying specialist Fugro Middle East is currently involved in one of the largest gas exploitation project in the region. A look at its scope of works on the DEL project and the services it offers.

Abu Dhabi-based Fugro Survey (Middle East) Limited, which operates throughout the Middle East, is currently working on a $5 million survey contract for Dolphin Energy Limited (DEL) conducting onshore and offshore surveys and environmental impact assessments.

The $3.5 billion Dolphin Project produces gas from the Khuff formation in Qatar's North Field and transports it to a gathering and processing plant at Ras Laffan. From there, 2 billion cu ft per day will be transported through a 440-km-long subsea pipeline to the UAE. It is the first offshore pipeline between two nations in the GCC.

Fugro Survey's work on the project involves combined geophysical, geotechnical, oceanographic and environmental impact studies using a variety of shallow and deep-water vessels. The nearshore work includes refraction seismic studies using Fugro's Gambas system.

The principal areas of expertise of Fugro Survey (Middle East) are:

  • Offshore positioning and

    survey support services;

  • Marine geophysical surveys;

  • Hydrographic surveys;

  • ROV pipeline inspection; and
