JCB Heavy Products manufactures a comprehensive line up of tracked excavators at its plant in Uttoxeter, UK, ranging from the zero tail-swing 7.5-tonne JZ70 to the mighty 46-tonne JS460.
The JZ70 can be fitted with 600 mm tracks, allowing it to rotate within the width of the undercarriage, reducing the space required in which to operate the machine, with no loss to lift capacity or bucket tear-out capabilities.
The JS460, the largest machine in the range, is designed to perform in the harshest environments and is aimed mainly at the bulk aggregate extraction, quarrying and demolition industries in Europe and North America, says the firm.
There are a number of special variations to meet specific demands, such as the XD (Xtra Duty) range which is ideal for demolition work. Comprising the JS330XD, JS260XD and JS220XD, all machines have chassis-mounted falling objects protection systems (FOPS) for complete operator protection, says the company.
Other strengths include reinforced revolving frame, heavy-duty guards for the track motors and turret, strengthened dipper, reinforced linkage plus upper-structure and counterweight buffers for extra protection.
At the smaller end of the range, the next machine up from the JZ70 is the JS130. The short 2.05 m tailswing and the big load over height mean the JS130 is perfect for tasks such as loading high-sided trucks in confined areas or for general groundwork tasks on housing and industrial construction sites, it adds.
Ideal for waterside operations is another specialist machine, the JS220LR, offering long reach of 15 m and configured to allow digging right up to the tracks. However, its transportation height is just 3 m.
JCB is also offering hydraulically-raised cabs on certain models in the range to widen still further the applications for its machines in both the construction and waste and recycling sectors. The hydraulic cabs can be raised to heights of up to 2.2 m above standard and can be halted at any point while being raised. At full extension the cab, moving out in an arc, moves approximately 0.5 m parallel to the ground.
The hydraulically-raised cabs have been purposely designed for applications such as loading or unloading into high-sided waste trailers or bulkers and loading recyclables into waste containers on civic amenity sites or material recycling facilities.
The whole tracked excavator range is fitted with the JCB Eurocab, which, with its large windows, provides excellent all-round visibility. The cab features an innovative up-and-over stowage system for the front screen, making for neat and safe storage of the lower glass.
Powerful, high-speed slew enables smooth load handling on steep slopes and also common to the range is the new Advanced Management System (AMS) providing efficient hydraulic control. The load sensing hydraulics are enhanced by a 10 per cent power boost function.
JCB's Plexus filtration system cleans hydraulic fluid to 1.5 microns, requiring filter changes only every 1,000 hours and reducing fluid change intervals to every 5,000 hours. The engine's large oil filters only require changing every 500 hours, according to JCB.
