Jotun reaps rewards of Fenomastic upgrade

01 March 2003

Sales are up for Jotun's Fenomastic Gold following a recent upgrade of the product, according to Jotun UAE.

"Fenomastic Gold was revitalised last year with the addition of two new features," says Niru Naik, brand manager (projects)for the Dubai-based company. "These are surface spread of flame to BS 476: PART 7:1997 as CLASS 1Y certified by the Warrington Fire Research Centre UK and anti-bacterial properties certified by Industrial Microbiological Services Limited, UK."

These new features - which have been included in a newly-designed brochure on Fenomastic Gold - have resulted in an upsurge in sales throughout the region, and are in addition to the paint's existing characteristics of crack-bridging, antifungal properties and vast colour choice, Naik says.

"All these properties make Fenomastic Gold the best available interior emulsion coating for almost any type of building, particularly hospitals," he explains.

He continues: "The hospital segment is a new area where it has recently been used successfully. Based on this experience, we now foresee a huge potential in the coming years. This potential exists both in terms of new construction and maintenance projects." Some of the recent projects where Fenomastic Gold has been used are the Fujairah hospital in the Northern Emirates and Kuwaiti Hospital and the Medical Clinic at the Federal Defence Facilities at Nad Al Shiba, Dubai. It has also been specified as an anti-bacterial paint for internal walls at the upcoming Gulf Diabetes Specialist Centre (affiliated to the US-based Joslin Diabetes Centre) at Salmaniya in Bahrain.

"We believed that Fenomastic Gold, which was launched fairly recently, had vast potential," Naik continues. "One of the major early projects was the Royal Mirage Hotel in Dubai and a number of luxury villas and buildings. However, we felt that the potential of the product was not being fully exploited.

"Now, however, we believe the product is set to create a niche of its own, particularly in the hospital segment and is likely to be seen in more and more consultants' specifications."

Besides Fenomastic Gold, Jotun's standard Fenomastic and Pilot are being regularly supplied to the UAE Ministry of Health for its various hospitals, according to Naik.

"The prestigious Welcare hospital in Dubai and the Muscat private hospital in Oman were painted with Fenomastic a few years ago," he adds.
