Fast-expanding Aikah Establishment has announced it will be introducing two new engine series from Iveco Aifo by the end of this year in the UAE.
"Iveco is one of the largest manufacturers of diesel engines producing more than 400,000 annually. Belonging to the Fiat group, the company has produced over 16 million engines in its 100-odd years. Iveco Aifo offers seven engine families in the range of 44 to 515 KW for various applications," an Aikah spokesman says.
The two new Iveco engine series the company is introducing are the NEF (New Engine Family) and Cursor. The NEF replaces one of the most popular and widely sold engine series in the world, the 8000. "Advanced performance, reduced noise and exhaust emissions, compactness, lightness, reliability and reduced operating and maintenance cost are the salient features of the new NEF series," says the spokesman.
NEF comprises a range of three, four and six-cylinder engines with a traditional injection system complemented by a common rail fuel supply system. The engines are available in many design solutions such as two- and four-valve per cylinder, natural and supercharged induction, traditional or total electronic control systems.
"With the noise level below 91 dBA, these engines are the quietest in their respective categories. The components are 40 per cent fewer than in engines with equal performance level. This aids in reducing maintenance costs. The replacement time for lubrication oil and filters has been increased to 1,000 hours," he says.
"With the new Cursor engines, Iveco is reaching for higher standards in industrial application. The design includes many innovative engineering solutions such as a four-valve per cylinder arrangement for optimal combustion chamber filling and better combustion. The fuel injection system features a selective control injector pump, which allows a high operating pressure up to 1,500 bars and an electronic control for each injector to ensure optimum management of fuel consumption."
The electronically-controlled variable geometry turbo compressor (VGT) reaches high power and torque values over a wide range of engine speeds. Excellent performance rating and reduced fuel and oil consumption considerably reduce running costs and service frequency, he says. Electronic control is extended to all functions and the possibility of the control unit interfacing with other systems makes the engine an "incredibly flexible working tool. The electronic control unit diagnostic system stores information on the most significant events that occur during engine operation. This information is very useful for service personnel to know the cause of possible failure and recommend preventive maintenance," he says.
With the acquisition of 2H Energy, France, in 2000, Iveco has been able to extend its range of gensets up to 3,000 KVA. 2H specialises in the manufacture of custom-built packages for varied applications in the military, telecommunications, airport services and the oil and gas industry. It also specialises in the development of microprocessor-based control panels for paralleling several units together as is often required in the power plants of eight to 10 MW.
Iveco Aifo has also been a pioneer in the development of refined conversion techniques, making it possible for its engines to run on alternative fuels such as natural gas. In accordance with customer requirements they can also be tailored to burn other gases such as biogas, sewage gas, compogas, he says.
In addition to Iveco Aifo, Aikah is the UAE representative of WFM and ACME Motori for their complete range of gensets and engines.
Aikah, founded in 1979, has gained prominence in the fields of electromechanical products, switchgear, lighting and fire fighting.
It has branches in Abu Dhabi, Al Ain, Sharjah and Ajman in the UAE. A sister concern, Al Khoory Equipment Establishment, operates in Oman.
