Metito (Overseas) Limited has completed work on a Dh23 million ($6.2 million) contract to design, supply and install a state-of-the-art sewage treatment works at Das Island in Abu Dhabi.
The project has now been finally commissioned and handed over by Metito-Granite Consortium to Abu Dhabi Marine Operating Company (Adma/Opco) which is responsible for the overall project. The infrastructure that has been put in place will serve both existing and future demands for wastewater treatment on the island.
After the successful handing over, Metito has started the five years operation and maintenance contract with Adma/Opco of the complete sewage collection and treatment systems on Das Island.
Metito, which has its headquarters for Europe, Asia and Africa in Sharjah, completed the two-year contract on schedule. Scope of work for the company on the project included the design and building of the mechanical and electrical components of the sewage treatment plant, pumping stations and a Scada (supervisory control and data acquisition) monitoring system for the project.
The sewage treatment works installed can handle a peak flow up to 260 cu/hr to cater for the estimated population of 6,000 people working on Das Island and cope with the different demands throughout the day caused by the shift method of working on the island.
The project is the latest in a series of major infrastructure projects that Metito has undertaken in Abu Dhabi emirate.
Metito International has also recently been awarded the contract for a Dh31 million ($8.4 million) reverse osmosis plant by Umm Al Quwain.
The one-year contract includes designing and installation of five desalination units with the production capacity of 500,000 gallons each of water per day to serve the Umm Al Quwain area.
