German firm enhances batch mixer

01 March 2004

BHS-Sonthofen, the German manufacturer of construction machinery and filtration technology, plans to launch its new innovations to the twin-shaft batch mixer at the bauma 2004, the leading construction equipment exhibition to be held in Germany at the end of this month.

Says a spokesman for BHS: “The market requirements with regard to efficient mixing solutions for the concrete industry have continued to become more and more demanding in recent years. One of the reasons for this trend is the new EN concrete standards focusing on the controlled achievement of specific concrete qualities rather than on exact requirements regarding the production processes. Another reason is that the new concrete formulas such as self-compacting concrete (SCC) have become very demanding on mixing technology.
The BHS twin shaft mixer is proving highly successful in view of these challenging market developments. Constantly high homogeneity of the mixed material in conjunction with very short mixing times, mechanical reliability, and low operating cost are the outstanding features of the BHS mixer, he adds.
As enhancements to the mixer, BHS offers, as an option, to equip its mixers with a pole-changing motor or with a frequency converter which enables increasing the rotational speed during the mixing process to enhance the mixing intensity, especially in the production of SCC or similar concrete.
BHS will present at bauma 2004 a new fully automatic oil-air lubrication system,  which uses oil instead of grease. Compared to traditional grease lubrication, it saves on time and has low lubricant consumption.
The mixers also feature an Optilong wear protection lining consisting of 28-mm-thick cast tiles unlike the usual mixer trough lining which has 19-mm-thick cast tiles. This enhances service life by more than 70 per cent. The Optilong system has proven its value in practical use, so that BHS offers it now as an option for all mixer sizes, the spokesman adds.
