01 December 2004

Qatar Dredging Company (QDC), a subsidiary of United Development Company (UDC), has won a QR1.5 billion ($412.1 million) contract to carry out the dredging work for the $2.5 billion new Doha International Airport project, according to reports.

Work on the dredging of the new airport is scheduled to begin in December and is expected to be completed within 24 months.
QDC won the project as part of a four-strong consortium that included Belgium’s Dredging International, the US' Great Lakes Dredge and Dock Company and Royal Boskalis Westminster of the Netherlands.
QDC's dredging and reclamation package covers: the dredging of about 60 million cu m of material to create a platform for the new airport; construction of a 14-km armoured revetment to protect the platform: and the dredging of a short approach channel-turning basin and a new quay to handle aggregates and construction materials.
