Zamil CoolCare’s vision of becoming the preferred HVAC (heating, ventilation and air-conditioning) services and parts provider in the GCC is now a reality, confirms Faisal Al Qahtani, general manager, Zamil CoolCare.

The company has been in the business for three decades. It started in 1974 as the parts and services division of Zamil Air Conditioners (ZAC). But since 1998, Zamil CoolCare has become an independent full service provider of maintenance solutions to all customers in the market.
Zamil CoolCare employs over 600 qualified technicians spread across 14 branches in Saudi Arabia. This premier air-conditioning equipment service and maintenance provider has been offering complete maintenance services and parts of branded air-cooling systems and is now steadily expanding its presence in the markets of the GCC countries. Regional offices have been established in Dubai and Qatar to service these markets, and plans are under way to open additional branches in Kuwait and Bahrain.
To add to its strength, Zamil CoolCare has a team of professional, dedicated and experienced staff, some working there for over three decades.
“Joint decision-making and working with different expertise helps to get better results in optimising the HVAC systems, ultimately satisfying the customer and end-user,” says Al Qahtani.
The company has been offering a wide range of services to diverse industrial, commercial and residential clients in the region. These include planned preventive maintenance programmes, replacement, retrofitting and upgrades, large tonnage chiller services, compressor rebuilding, repair facility, testing, adjusting and balancing (TAB), corrosion-resistant coatings, spare parts sales and HVAC training services.

Planned preventive maintenance
Through its regular, scheduled maintenance programmes, Zamil CoolCare helps keep systems in optimum operating condition, thereby offering customers the benefit of a comfortable, trouble-free operation and ensuring there is no premature deterioration of  equipment.
In addition, “the planned preventive maintenance programmes on offer generate  considerable savings to users through reduced electricity consumption and cost-effective solutions when compared to the cost of breakdown repairs. These programmes ensure peak performance and a longer operating life span for these units, while preventing early deterioration” says Yousef Al Bassam, assistant area manager.

Upgrades
Zamil CoolCare provides a unique approach to optimise cooling systems through a programme of upgrading and modernising specific systems and components, or by installing new equipment, which can be of any make, type, brand or capacity.
This service enables customers to comply with new environmental standards and technology and building codes, to achieve improved efficiency levels and reduce power consumption.
The replacement, retrofit and upgrade services are tailored to the specific needs of every client.
“Our solutions are based on a thorough analysis of the requirements and the environment in which the system operates,” says Mohammed Ali, service area manager.

Large tonnage chiller services
Zamil CoolCare offers the highest quality of chiller services in the region, says Azzam Abdul Baki, service division manager. Centrifugal/screw/reciprocating liquid chillers are put through a whole gamut of tests that include: vibration analysis, thermo graphic testing, eddy current testing, water/oil/refrigerant analysis (performed by an independent laboratory) and motor insulation testing. In addition to its regular maintenance, repair of components and service, upgrade and installation of microprocessor control, Zamil CoolCare ensures that any recommended solution benefits the equipment user first and foremost – rather than the equipment manufacturer.

Compressor rebuilding/repair
“Over the years, Zamil CoolCare has become the cost-effective lifeline for many owners or operators of HVAC systems in the kingdom,” says K Surendran, compressor shop in-charge. “We have extensive experience in rebuilding semi-hermetic reciprocating and screw compressors of various capacities and for brands like Copeland, Bitzer, Trane, York, Carrier, Refcomp, Dunham Bush – aided by original certified replacement parts and technical assistance from original equipment manufacturers.”

Air & water TAB services
Zamil CoolCare is currently the only National Environmental Balancing Bureau (NEBB)-certified Testing, Adjusting and Balancing (TAB) firm in the kingdom, asserts Al Qahtani. These services include air and water testing, adjusting and balancing; fume hood testing; sound and vibration measurements and duct leakage tests. The TAB team also offers additional services such as replacement analysis, pre-demolition tests, design versus actual, failure analysis, HVAC control component operations, total HVAC system commissioning, surveying/logging of comfort parameters (temperature/humidity, room pressure, carbon dioxide/carbon monoxide, sound) and energy consumption.
The TAB division at Zamil CoolCare assures NEBB certification, following project specifications in accordance with the latest standards and procedures. A professional and experienced TAB team, supported by the most modern, calibrated and reliable instrumentation and tools, conducts pre-TAB meetings and reviews designs, neutral and unprejudiced measurement and reports, and assists operation and maintenance personnel in the efficient operation of the HVAC system, and offers free assurance certificate attached to all TAB reports.
TAB services can help increase productivity; maximise equipment performance, minimise complaints and reduce operating and energy costs. Speaking on the importance of TAB, Philips Tharakan, TAB team leader says “no HVAC system is self-balanced, hence the necessity of this service”.
“On installation, air handling units, chillers and pumps will not be providing the desired end results automatically upon start-up. Under the TAB process, all parts of the system are tested, adjusted and balanced for the required air and water as per the design quantity. After the balancing process, the HVAC system will not overwork to satisfy room/zone temperature, humidity, pressure etc. Balancing leads to better comforts, improved internal air quality, energy saving and less maintenance and produces the most economical operating conditions as intended by the HVAC design engineer. The TAB report will be a useful reference tool for owners, consultants and maintenance personnel,” he adds.

Corrosion-resistant coating services
Zamil CoolCare also offers corrosion-resistant coating services. Offered under the brand name ThermoGuard, the coatings for use on HVAC systems in industrial, marine and commercial applications, heat exchangers have proven to enhance the quality of cooling and cost-effectiveness, says Abdul Baki. These coatings provide Fin Guard silver for energy conservation systems for heat exchangers; micro-organism-repellant Eco Guard for preventing odour; Casing Guard for “ideal casing coating for all exposure conditions”; Flex Guard for flexible, protective, self-levelling PU (polyurethane) flooring coating for drain pans and the bases of air handling units (AHUs).
The corrosion-resistant coatings have a number of advantages that include: minimum pressure drop, enhanced heat conductivity and performance in most environments, crack-proof from direct sun exposure, prevents dust and dirt adhesion, positive influence on heat rejection by the condenser coil, affords high protection to galvanic corrosion, cope with the contraction and expansion of the metal, requires minimum shutdown time, available in a wide range of colours, and comes as VOC (volatile organic compounds)-free coating for solvent-restricted areas. The company offers high flexibility on delivery times and warranty possibilities, and can be applied on site or in any of the company’s service centres. Zamil CoolCare offers these coating services to new equipment, to recondition existing corroded equipment.
“These coatings reduce energy costs significantly, extend equipment life, and offer extended long-term protection against corrosive elements and chemicals. The ThermoGuard coating, which has been awarded the Eureka technological innovation award, is approved by ETL and secures a long-lasting nominal performance, making the product one of the most cost-effective energy conservation systems available. Using ThermoGuard’s products helps keep the performance of air side HVAC equipment at a nominal level, and has a negligible effect on pressure drop or K-value, provided some maintenance is carried out,” says Abdul Baki.
Zamil CoolCare offers ThermoGuard coating as a unique service, due to the ease of application and minimal environmental impact, coupled with the environmental and economic benefits of a maintainable and repairable corrosion protection system. Long-term warranties are also possible.

Spare parts sales
Zamil CoolCare ensures the selection of original, genuine and high quality parts for the equipment it deals with. Anise Al Assar, spare parts manager, states:“Our well-stocked stores are computer-linked to international manufacturers to ensure swift availability of spares. Through our alliance with world-renowned manufacturing companies such as Emerson Climate Technologies, Tecumseh, Maneurop, Sanyo and General Electric, Zamil CoolCare offers a complete range of brands for compressors, motors and HVAC parts.”

HVAC training service
The company offers a series of training courses specially designed for all Zamil CoolCare technicians, contractors, dealers and for the end-user customers. Each course is individually tailored to meet the specific needs of the individual. Special courses for training in specified areas, rather than general training, are structured to cater to practically any aspect of air-conditioning.
The training department has conducted training sessions for most of the major contractors, dealers and even large organizations such as the Saudi Electricity Company (SEC) and Saudi Aramco, says Janewsix Jain, HVAC training instructor.
Today, Zamil CoolCare is a premier air-conditioning equipment service and maintenance provider in the Middle East. The company’s capability range covers all systems from 1.5 to 10,000-tonne capacities. Consulting services from Zamil CoolCare are utilised by clients to obtain optimum results.
For three decades, Zamil CoolCare has been offering HVAC services to its major clients like Hadeed (Saudi Iron and Steel Company), Ibn Zahr, Jubail United Petrochemical Company, Mitsubishi Heavy Industries, Petrokemya, Saudi Aramco, Saudi Yanpet, United Carton, Samad, Kemya, Al Rajhi Bank, Coastguard, King Fahad Military Medical Complex, King Faisal Specialist Hospital, Ministry of Education, Ministry of Hajj, Dubai Police Department, Saudi Arabian Public Transport Company (Saptco), Saudi Electricity Company (SEC), Saudi Railway, Saudi Telecom Company (STC), Tazaj chain restaurants and various residential compounds and private villas.
