Vogele’s machines put to test in Al Ain

German manufacturer Vogele’s latest range of hi-tech paving machines is proving its strength by laying out one the finest roads in Al Ain under the Umughafa Township road project.

01 September 2005

Vogele’s latest paver model the Super 1800-1 is working with one of the Emirates’ leading road contracting company – Al Futtaim Tarmac at the Umughafa Township in Al Ain.

Super 1800-1 – one among the latest technological innovations in Vogele’s range – is equipped with V-Tronic, a self-diagnostic system that optimises the monitoring and maintenance while perfectly coordinating all paver functions.
The Super 1800-1’s powerful 127 kw Perkins engine is electronically managed and its eco-mode feature ensures low fuel consumption, low noise level and wear. Electric screed heating is in alternating mode thereby cutting power consumption by half.
The Umughafa Township road project comprises 23 km of internal roads. These roads are currently being laid – to a width of 7.3 m with a base course of 7 cm and wearing course of 5 cm – using a Vogele paver along with a fleet of six Hamm GRW18 pneumatic tyred rollers and two Hamm HD110 articulated tandem rollers.
John Rice, plant manager Al Futtaim Tarmac says: “The paver is giving the correct levels and surface finish. Also the after sales support provided by Genavco is quite satisfactory. We work with Genavco very closely and help each other wherever we can. In the road construction business we cannot afford the paver to be down because it will stop the entire work process that leads to the wastage of material, time and money.”

New range
Earlier this year, Vogele has launched its new compact pavers in the mini and small category, which it claims will help pave smaller tasks with greater efficiency and speed and help users to pave right up to the wall.
“The new Super 600 for footpaths and cycle paths, successor to the Super Boy, and the new small paver Super 800 stand out primarily through their compact sizes,” says a Vogele spokesman.

Super 600
“Compact size, easy handling and high manoeuvrability are a few aspects on which the Super 600 heavily scores over similar models. The new mini paver launched by the Mannheim-based manufacturer is the successor to the Vogele Super Boy,” he says.
“Thanks to its compact design, variable pave width and excellent price/performance ratio, the Super 600 is the ideal mini machine for paving applications such as surfacing cycle paths, footpaths or small areas, or for rehabilitation work. Fitted with a powerful and economical Deutz engine rated at 40 kW, it allows a pave speed of up to 60m/min. The Super 600 reaches laydown rates up to 200 tonnes/h. As optional equipment, an asymmetrical material hopper, cut-off shoes for smaller pave widths and Niveltronic SC for automated grade and slope control are available.
The Super 600 comes with an AB 200 extending screed in V (vibrator) version for compaction. The screed is infinitely variable from 1.1 m to 2 m. By the addition of cut-off shoes pave width can be reduced to a minimum 0.5 m, whereas addition of bolt-on extensions builds up the screed to a maximum of 2.7 m.
ECO mode for the engine allows economical paver operation thanks to low fuel consumption and further provides for low noise levels and prolongs the paver’s service life.

Super 800
The new small Vogele Super 800 paver comes with the same compact size but features higher performance, larger pave width and an even higher compacting intensity. With a clearance width of just 1.2 m, the Super 800 is ideal for applications in tight corners. What’s more, the outer track gauge of only 1.1m permits reliable and precise paver manoeuvring even within deeply milled out strips in road pavements. Repair work can thus be carried out highly economically.
Although similar to the Super 600, the Super 800 has a higher perforemance capabilities. With its bigger engine rated at 42 kW and a maximum laydown rate of 250 tonnes/h, the Super 800, too, comes with ECO mode. It combines with an AB 200 Extending Screed in TV Version, thus featuring tamper and vibrators for compaction. The screed achieves a level of precompaction unusually high for a paver in the small equipment sector. Also absolutely new and special in the paver’s class is its maximum pave width of 3.2 m. Just like the Super 600’s screed, the screed of the Super 800 is capable of paving positive and negative crown within the range of -2.5 per cent and +4.5 per cent. The AB 200’s design ensures that irrespective of the kind of pavement profile selected, a high-quality road surface is achieved. Like all Vogele screeds, the AB 200 is heated electrically.
The Super 800 comes with the same optional extras as the mini paver Super 600. “Thanks to its performance features, the Super 800 is capable of handling most varied paving applications absolutely reliably. Among these are building of roads in municipal areas, farm tracks or roads on industrial grounds, cycle paths or footpaths, or repairs and rehabilitation work in general, just to mention a few of them. The Super 800 is a machine for universal application and, no doubt, the right choice also for municipal road building contractors,” he concludes.
