Hilti launches innovative breaker

Hilti has introduced an innovative, low-fatigue and exceptionally high-performance breaker that promises to make long periods of hard chiselling a thing of the past.

01 October 2005

The first in the medium-weight class to feature a symmetrical form and an effective vibration absorption system, Hilti's new TE 706-AVR breaker takes the effort out of chiselling when working in various positions and in almost every direction, says Charles Daher, market segment manager, Hilti Regional Office for the Middle East and South Asia region.

“The TE 706-AVR breaker’s ergonomic design ensures optimum balance, excellent handling characteristics and a significantly lower level of dynamic vibration,” he says. 'With the TE 706-AVR, professionals in many trades – but particularly those in renovation and plumbing – can chisel through-holes or carry out light demolition and finishing work more efficiently than ever before, especially on walls.”

Effective vibration reduction
Vibration is further reduced by Hilti's AVR (active vibration reduction) system. “Vibration at the grip is usually the result of reactive forces generated by the hammering mechanism - pneumatic pressure, rebound impacts and unbalance in the crank and connecting rod.  Featuring a double-skin casing design that uncouples the inner pneumatic and motor section from the outer housing and grip by way of articulated arms and spring supports, the Hilti TE 706-AVR reduces this kind of vibration by about 50 per cent. This low level of vibration greatly reduces strain on the operator's hands and arms. As a result, the recommended period of use (switched-on time) for this tool, in accordance with the EC standard, is four times longer than with conventional tools,” Daher points out.

Brushless SR-motor
The SR-motor technology incorporated in this breaker represents a world première from Hilti. The state-of the-art SR-motor eliminates parts that are prone to wear, such as the commutator and carbon brushes, and is a further step by Hilti towards a truly reliable and durable electric breaker, he says. In addition, since the motor does away with the need to replace carbon brushes, service intervals for this tool are correspondingly longer.
“Hilti's control electronics permit constantly high motor power even when connected to electric supplies subject to voltage fluctuations. Cooling air flows over large areas of the motor, electronics and hammering mechanism, keeping the tool and its casing pleasantly cool,” says Daher. “This not only increases working comfort, but in conjunction with exceptionally durable materials in sections exposed to wear, it also increases the tool’s life expectancy and reliability. The chiselling impact energy produced by this new breaker can be set to one of three levels to suit the application on hand.”

Self-sharpening chisels
Maximum efficiency is also ensured by the new polygon chisels, available in pointed, flat and wide-flat versions. Their self-sharpening profile makes the resharpening, reforging and rehardening process a thing of the past. Offering constantly high chiselling performance over their entire life, these chisels also achieve a better breaking effect and greatly reduce the tendency to stick while chiseling, he adds.
The new design of the flat and wide-flat versions features a longer blade for longer life. Thanks to the use of high-grade materials and the latest manufacturing techniques, the risk of breakage is minimal, he explains.

Red dot design award
The TE 706-AVR was one of the four tools for which the Hilti Corporation was awarded this year's coveted red dot award - an international acknowledgement of design quality that has been given annually since 1955.
“This year, 1,857 products were submitted to the jury from more than 36 countries. The award, presided over by an international jury, was sponsored by the Design Zentrum Nordrhein Westfalen, in Essen, Germany,” Daher says.
The other products that received the coveted award include: the WSJ 850-EB/ET jig saws, the TE 16-M rotary hammer, and the WSR 1400-PE reciprocating saw.  “Technology and design have always complemented each other for years at Hilti. Apart from high performance and robustness, our customers also value ergonomic aspects. User-friendliness and corresponding product design are therefore of great importance to us,” concludes Dr Andreas Bong, head of Hilti’s Power Tools Business Unit at Hilti’s headquarters in Schaan, Liechtenstein.
