Putzmeister to launch new range at Intermat

01 March 2006

Putzmeister – a leading German construction equipment specialist whose products are being used on some of the most challenging and diverse range of projects in the region, including the Burj Dubai – continues to innovate in response to customer requirements.

Its current focus is on versatile applications and easy adaptation to different construction site situations, and compact machine dimensions.
Some its latest innovations including truck-mounted concrete pump models and booms, are set to go on display next month (April) in France at the Intermat 2006, an international exhibition that showcases the latest equipment and techniques available worldwide. Promoted at the show will be the M20-4ZR, M 28-4 Z, M 38-4 Z, M42-5 RZ, and the M 47-5 RZ, among others – all aimed at enhancing customer satisfaction and greater user comfort and allowing users to work even in tight spaces, says a company spokesman.

M 20-4 ZR
With this new universal truck-mounted concrete pump with an unfolding height of just 3.9 m, Putzmeister has extended its range of compact truck-mounted concrete pumps, which can be used even in the narrowest of spaces, says the spokesman.
“The most significant aspect of the machine is the boom, which is folded four times according to the ‘Z roll and fold’ principle. Previously, this boom folding type was only used on larger truck-mounted concrete pumps such as the M 24-4 ZR and M 31-5 ZR,” he explains.
The M 20-4 ZR is primarily intended for use in construction sites such as the narrow backyards in residential and industrial areas, construction and refurbishment projects in low buildings, tunnels or underpasses, as well as rooms that were lower than 4 m, where standard truck-mounted concrete pumps were inoperable.
The 20-m boom of the M 20-4 ZR – which can also be used in normal construction sites – functions extremely well as a pipe bridge which – practically without any loss in vertical reach – can snake horizontally up to six storeys (of a floor height of 2.7 m) and be fed through windows or even the smallest of other openings.
The unfolding height of the new ‘quad’ M 20 ZR is just 3.9 m. In addition to the specially-developed placing boom, the newly-designed base structure also takes into account the latest findings from weight-optimised steel construction.
“With a front support extent of just 3.4 m (rear within the vehicle width of 2.5 m), the compact truck-mounted concrete pump can be supported and unfolded in even the narrowest of passageways, which is equivalent to the area that the machine takes up when the cabin’s doors are open,” the spokesman points out.
The extremely flexible concrete boom has a 125 mm delivery line as standard, in a particularly hardwearing, two-layer design. The core pump recommended by Putzmeister is an aggregate with a 1,400 mm stroke and 230 mm delivery cylinder, which is designed for delivery rates of up to 90 cu m/h or pump pressure up to 78 bar, he says.
The short wheelbase of just 4.5 m ensures an extremely small turning circle. With a permissible gross weight of less than 18 tonnes for the two-axis chassis and an actual tare weight of approximately 15 tonnes (depending on the vehicle), the M 20-4 also has significant weight reserves. This enables the small “quad” to carry additional hoses and pipes, meaning that the working range of the machine is significantly extended, he adds.

M 28-4 Z
Manoeuvrable even with large loads, the M 28 four-arm Z fold boom has asserted itself as an all-purpose concrete pump in some of the European markets. The machines, which are mounted on a three-axle chassis, are characterised by the short wheelbase of generally 3.9 m and the low self-weight. The resultant high weight reserves of approximately 5 tonne makes it advantageous to build up an entire equipment package for refurbishing jobs.

M 38-4  Z
The M 38-4 Z rounds off Putzmeister’s range of flexible booms in the 30-m class. Whereas the base structure, support and boom folding principle were taken from the M 36-4 Z, the arm assembly is a weight-optimised further development of the M 36 Z four-arm boom.

M 42-5 RZ
The new M 42-5 truck-mounted concrete pump, delivery of which started in October 2005, has already received a positive market response, says the spokesman. “This boom model, first presented in 1997, will continue to appear in our product range. The step from the four-arm to the five-arm boom requires an additional boom hinge which, for design reasons, involves extra weight. However, Putzmeister has kept the overall weight of the compact four-axle model below 33 tonnes.”
The new M 42 with five-arm boom is designed as a flexible rolling Z fold boom and can thus be better adapted to different building structures than the four-arm booms, and also be used in higher storeys. When driving through narrow double bends, the short wheelbase of only 5.5 m proves to be an extremely positive feature. Another important advantage is that the folded boom does not project beyond the rear of the vehicle, he adds.

M 47-5 RZ
Also with the development of the compact M 47 five-arm boom – the 'big brother' of the M 42-5 – Putzmeister has taken into special consideration the wishes of pump operators and has responded with:
• Short overall length – therefore good manoeuvrability in road traffic and on the construction site;
• Minimum support width and surface area requirement; and
• Flexible boom folding suitable for construction sites.
In addition, with the M 47-5 RZ, Putzmeister has also kept the overall length of the truck-mounted concrete pump below 12 m, which means no special authorisation is required to operate the machine.
In construction site operation, other advantages become apparent such as small support surface area and extent of supports the machine provides. For the Putzmeister M 47-5, a space of only 8.0 m (front) and 8.9 m (rear) is sufficient to provide full support.
The new boom types can be combined with a number of equipment options appropriate to the respective task.

Pumi
At Intermat, Putzmeister will also exhibit two Pumi models with different delivery systems and boom sizes. The Pumi 21.67 Q is designed for maximum possible concrete transport capacity and has a boom with a vertical reach of 21 m. As an alternative to this rotor truck mixer concrete pump, a Pumi with piston pump and S transfer tube will also be on show.
The PM truck mixer concrete pumps have the Ergonic Pump System (EPS) even in the basic equipment, with which the machine operator can set pump pressures and output for respective jobs, which is not only practical, but also safe. The Ergonic Mixer Control (EMC) module is also a standard feature. With the new PUMIs, equipping with the diesel-saving Ergonic Output Control (EOC) is optional.
