Duravit extends range

01 December 2006

Duravit of Germany has launched innovative washbasins in metallic finishes in the 2nd Floor, Ciottolo and Starck X product ranges which are said to offer a offer a perfect symbiosis of design and functionality.

“The highlight of the extravagant small range from Ciottolo is a round console basin in platinum – a high quality and totally new precious metal glaze that lends that extra special touch to any private or prestigious bathroom or cloakroom,” says a company spokesperson. “Three Ciottolo washbasin models are currently available as a circular washbowl of 50 cm diameter with 17cm height; shaped like a droplet with a width of 88 cm, diameter of 53.5 cm and height of 21cm; and as an oval console basin with width 47cm, diameter of 34 cm and height of 36.5 cm.
For the Starck X range, French designer Philippe Starck has teamed up with Duravit to introduce individualism in a perfect bathroom ambience, with the sculptural character of these washbasins making them unrivalled and matchless, according to the spokesman. The washbasins are 89 cm high and resting on a ceramic pedestal and feature a conical inner surface that shimmers in a platinum precious metal glaze.
“Understated and elegant, these rectangular washbasins that are 57 cm wide, rest on metal consoles, which in a wider version measuring 110 cm feature an additional shallow shelf recess in lustrous platinum. Combined with bathroom furniture and bathtubs, they produce a fascinating interplay of all Starck X bathroom objects,” the spokesman says.
Small washbasins from the 2nd Floor comprehensive bathroom range created by Sieger Design and made by Duravit, give a new impetus to contemporary bathroom designing, he says. The highlight of these shallow rectangular washbasins is the specially-developed matt stainless steel inner finish. Tougher than actual stainless steel and easy to clean, the silver glaze graces the 60, 70 and 80 cm wide washbasins, the 58 and 52.5 cm wide countertop and under-counter basins, the 58 cm wide console basin and the 120 cm wide double washbasin.
“Generous on the interior, the shallow design of the ceramics harmonises perfectly with the slim-line exterior in the 2nd Floor range. In combination with the furniture, the graceful basin develops a very special charm; optically separated from the vanity unit by a shadow gap, the ceramics literally appear to float above the furniture. The warm shades of wood contrast attractively with the pure white of the ceramics. The mirror also takes up the colour of the wood. The ensemble is available in a choice of four wooden surfaces; in light or dark shades, matt or gloss finishes, real wood veneer or melamine   from the elegant wood surround to the floor standing vanity unit,” adds the spokesperson.
Also in the small washbasins range is the classic rectangular Vero hand-rise washbasin - a  masterpiece of clear-cut forms in ceramics. Designed around the strict geometry of a rectangle, the basin derives its distinctive styling from the interplay of the proportions. A shallow depth of only 25 cm is coupled with double the width, making it ideal even where space is at a premium and yet providing enough space at the side for pre punched tap holes and soap holder, says the spokesman.
