Bayer MaterialScience has tied up with Pearl Insulation Materials Industries to establish a polyurethane systems house joint venture in Dubai, which will produce polyurethane chemicals.
Both companies believe this step will enable them to play a significant role in the future growth in the Middle East.
“The new systems house will support customers in the construction industry and oil and gas extraction, where rigid polyurethane foam is used on a large scale for thermal insulation,” says Stephan Rosenthal, senior country representative of Bayer MaterialScience in the Middle East.
The move enables Bayer MaterialScience, one of the leading manufacturers of polyurethane raw materials, to continue the expansion of its BaySystems systems houses, with the joint venture integrated into this global network under the name BaySystems Pearl.
The Dubai-based Pearl Insulation Materials Industries, a specialist in rigid polyurethane foam thermal insulation, has been operating successfully in the Middle East for several years. Its managing director Feroz Saleem will take on a similar responsibility at BaySystems Pearl, and the venture is expected to commence operations early next year.
BaySystems allows every customer to benefit from the know-how of his direct partner and the network, and from the security of the stable, backward-integrated supplier Bayer MaterialScience.
Pearl insulation currently has the technology for insulation products used in district cooling, sandwich panels, oil and gas applications and Insulation supplies to all the Middle Eastern markets. The joint venture will add more products and offer benefits in obtaining innovative technology from various global system houses within the BaySystems network, enabling Pearl to target new business segments in these markets.
“Customised solutions will make BaySystems Pearl a leading provider in the Middle East,” says Dr Joachim Dohm of Bayer MaterialScience. “Customers will also benefit from the consistently high quality of our global network. Moreover, they will profit from the rapid and flexible technology transfer that operates within the network and from there direct to the polyurethane processor.’’
The systems houses operating under the BaySystems brand offer customer-specific product portfolios in their regions. By working together they also accelerate the market launch of polyurethane innovations.
With sales of €10.7 billion ($13.75 billion) in 2005, Bayer MaterialScience – part of the Bayer Group – is one of the world’s largest polymer manufacturers.
