LG Electronics (LG), which stakes claim to being the world’s leading air-conditioner seller for the past seven consecutive years, will upgrade its award- winning and innovative Artcool air-conditioner to include inverter technology.
This year, LG will add its inverter technology to its aesthetically-appealing Artcool air-conditioners, enhancing its functionality to maintain a more stable room temperature and be more energy efficient.
'LG's inverter technology dynamically controls compressor speed, which means cooling and heating can be adjusted much more quickly to provide more stable temperature control,' says Yong Kim, senior product manager LG Electronics, Jeddah office. 'Moreover, the 2007 Artcool inverter can maintain desired temperatures easily, thus reducing electricity costs by about 44 per cent over conventional models while making less noise.'
'Its replaceable front panel and inverter technology are not the only advantages that LG's Artcool inverter has over conventional models. LG has also added a three-dimensional airflow system, which provides more even temperature control throughout the room. Additionally, Artcool inverter’s ultra-thin body allows it to fit even more seamlessly into household interiors,” he points out.
“Artcool already has swept the world’s premium air-conditioner market with the simple yet clever concept of having a wall-mounted air-conditioner double as a picture frame by using an easily replaceable front panel,” comments Simon Lee, general manager of LG’s Jeddah Office. “This was one of the first steps in the industry toward blending appliances with household décor to match a theme.”
“This upgrade is part of our continuing commitment to enhance the quality of our customers’ lives,” said Young Ha Lee, president and CEO of LG Electronics Digital Appliance Company. “Inverter technology will make people more comfortable while, at the same time, lowering their electric bills. LG’s innovative Artcool inverter air-conditioner ensures that everyone can enjoy a more pleasant climate at home, both temperature-wise and aesthetically.”
The Artcool series of air-conditioners includes the picture-frame-style ArtcoolGallery air-conditioner, which won the prestigious 2007 iF Design Award and the recently-launched ArtcoolMirror, which incorporates low-noise inverter technology. Providing effective cooling and heating, this compact-sized air-conditioner is 30 per cent smaller than competing Japanese products, claims Kim.
Artcool – in particular the picture frame-style ArtcoolGallery air-conditioner – was among the 40 air-conditioner models that LG Electronics displayed at the recent Climatizacion, which is considered to be the world's largest international heating, ventilating, and air conditioning (HVAC) exhibition. Held recently (February 28 to March 3) in Madrid, Spain, this year’s exhibition drew more than 1,500 companies from 40 countries and approximately 50,000 HVAC-related specialists.
Other models promoted at the exhibition included the Multi V Sync, a technically-advanced and economical system, and the world's slimmest built-in commercial air-conditioners.
“A technology exclusive to LG, Multi V Sync is a heat recovery system which makes it possible to operate cooling and heating simultaneously using only one outdoor unit, serving both cost and energy efficiency needs,” explains Kim. “Multi V Sync decreases energy consumption by 30 per cent by balancing cooling and heating functions. The system uses a high-efficiency inverter system and environmentally-safe R410A refrigerant, and has one of the greatest capacity and height operation possible. With one single Multi V sync outdoor set (three units), up to 40 indoor units can be operated at the same time. Multi V can even reach down to an inside unit on the first floor from a 50-m-high roof.
'This third-generation air-conditioner is especially suitable for hotels, hospitals and buildings where space-specific heating/cooling control is essential,' says Lee.
Among other developments, LG Electronics has now begun providing customised products and dedicated service for commercial air-conditioners (CAC). It is using cutting-edge technology and long-term partnerships developed through its residential air-conditioner business to deliver its customers top-quality CACs.
LG has been running its own Air Conditioning Academy, offering tailored customer education on CAC control logic, installation and troubleshooting methods, for its dealers and engineers in 27 countries since the mid-1990s.
“Commercial air-conditioner products are another example of LG's commitment to providing our customers with the most energy-efficient air-conditioners possible,” says HY Nho, president of LG Electronics’ Air Conditioning Division. “These technologies are not only better for the environment, but also easier on our customers’ pockets. LG will double the size of its air-conditioning R&D team by 2008, and increase R&D investment to 10 per cent of total sales.”
LG’s commercial air-conditioners offer the latest in industry-leading technology, ensuring low energy consumption, low noise and low vibration. These CACs have dramatically reduced footprints compared to the products our competitors offer, says Kim.
LG provides a wide range of tailored products that are suited to buildings in a variety of types and sizes. The company’s portfolio of products includes its MPS, Multi V series, Eco V, Multi F and Multi F DX series offering the following benefits:
• Multi V Plus, a technically advanced and economical system with maximised cooling load and high efficiency, which was developed particularly for large buildings and high-rises. Its technology allows the installation of pipes up to 150 m long, at an altitude of 50m;
• MPS, LG's Multi Power System, which is claimed to be a “world’s first”, combining multiple compressors in a single air-conditioning system. It also reduces energy consumption by a maximum of 70 per cent compared to conventional one-compressor air-conditioners, and reduces noise and vibration by adopting multiple small-capacity compressors;
• Eco V, an integral component of the HVAC system, which allows contaminants to be removed quickly and effectively from the air-conditioned space;
• Multi F and Multi F DX. LG’s Multi F air-conditioner is the first to use the new LG DC inverter technology, which precisely controls compressor speed, making the system run much more efficiently and reducing energy costs by up to 44 per cent. The Multi F system, an upgraded version, can operate up to four indoor units using just one outdoor unit and up to nine indoor units off of a single outdoor unit by bridging units together using distributor boxes. These systems are designed primarily for use in residential buildings and allow users to choose from a wide range of residential indoor units.
LG projects worldwide profits of $55 million for air-conditioners in 2008. The goal for 2010 is to increase sales by 50 per cent, or $35 million, and bring in $70 million in profits.
