Stevin Rock installs Terex crushing train

01 November 2007

Stevin Rock, a leading aggregate producer in the region, has recently commissioned a new mobile crushing train utilising Terex Pegson and Powerscreen expertise.

The new equipment supplied by Genavco, the Terex Pegson and Powerscreen dealer for the UAE, was ordered by the company to meet the increasing demand for quality aggregate that is delivered with the least possible lead time.
Within a month of placing the order, the equipment was supplied, commissioned and producing material ready for the market. The crushing and screening chain includes a Terex Pegson 1100 by 800 Premiertrak jaw crusher, a Terex Pegson 1300 Maxtrak cone crusher and a Powerscreen Chieftain 2400.
As a leading aggregate company in the Gulf, the UAE-based company produces in excess of 30 million tonnes per annum, which is supplied to most of the major building projects in the region. These projects range from amazing man-made islands off Dubai – such as The Palm Jumeirah and The World – to the futuristic international airport at Doha, Qatar.
Doug Ross, operations manager at Stevin Rock says: “The increase in production has resulted in improved supply to our important clients and the financial benefits of long-term contracts due to Stevin Rock’s ability to meet customers’ quality requirements and delivery schedules consistently.”
The diagram below shows the layout of this crushing and screening chain.  The gabbro rock is first fed to the Terex Pegson 1100 by 800 Premiertrak. This primary jaw crusher feeds the Terex Pegson 1300 Maxtrak which feeds the triple-deck loading screen. This recirculates the oversize (32 mm-plus) back to the Terex Pegson 1300 Maxtrak and removes the fines of 0 to 3 mm size. The 3 to 32 mm aggregate is then fed to the vertical shaft impactor (VSI) which shapes the stone before screening it in the Powerscreen Chieftain 2400. This mobile screen has three decks with 20 mm, 10 mm and 5 mm screen media.  The oversize is recirculated back to the VSI.  This produces three end-products: 0 to 5 mm dry sand, 5 to 10 mm aggregate for asphalt/concrete production and 10 to 20 mm aggregate also for asphalt/concrete production.
Terex Pegson pioneered the development of the 1180 Premiertrak to produce a high-performance, large-capacity tracked mounted jaw crusher that is suitable for a variety of quarrying and contract crushing applications.
“Behind the success of the 1180 Premiertrak is the ‘M’ series SHD single-toggle jaw crusher, which has been designed to deliver unsurpassed output levels on the toughest of applications,” explains a spokesman for Terex Pegson. “This versatile unit is suitable for primary operations and will achieve capacities of more than 450 tonnes per hour (tph) depending on the size and type of material being processed.”
Turning to the Maxtrak, he says: “The 1300 Maxtrak is Terex Pegson’s largest tracked cone crusher and is suitable for secondary and tertiary applications up to 350 tph. This plant ‘punches way above its size’ and is ideal to follow very high-capacity primary jaw crushers and produce quality sub-base or aggregates.
“Using the unbeatable 1300 Automax cone crusher, the 1300 Maxtrak features a system with a large feed hopper which is able to take an ‘all-in feed’ from the jaw crusher, thereby improving cubicity, throughput and reduction ratios and eliminating the need for pre-screening on most applications.
“Setting adjustment can be made ‘on the run’ using touch button control. Dust suppression sprays and metal detection are both included as standard. Without question, the 1300 Maxtrak is a big step ahead of the competition in its size, productivity and operating efficiency.”
The Powerscreen Chieftain 2400 is the largest mobile screening product in the Chieftain range. “With higher stockpile heights, larger screening areas and more user-friendly conveyor systems, the Chieftain 2400 offers the mining, quarrying and recycling industries a true giant in screening plants. The Chieftain 2400 can accept a material feed of up to 6 (150 mm), depending on mesh sizes and material used,” says a spokesman for Powerscreen.
“With the satisfactory performance of the new crushing and screening train, Stevin Rock has purchased further equipment to increase the production capacity of the original equipment supplied,” says a spokesman for Genavco.
Terex Pegson and Powerscreen International are the leading global mobile crushing and screening manufacturers and have a full range of crushing and screening products to suit most applications.
Powerscreen, part of the worldwide Terex group, is a leader in the design and manufacture of dry screening, washing and recycling equipment for the quarry, mining, landfill and waste management industries for processing aggregates, coal, rubble, skip and municipal waste, compost and sand.
Terex Corporation, a diversified global manufacturer, operates in five business segments: aerial work platforms, construction, cranes, materials processing and mining, and roadbuilding, utility and other products.
