DRain storms market with quality

01 December 2007

With more than three decades of experience behind it, Ahmad Abdulla Juma Plastic Pipes and Fittings Industry Company today ranks among the top suppliers of quality plastic products within the UAE.

The Dubai-based company is now reasserting the fact that the quality of its products matches that of imports.
“The market is choosy in that it wants products labelled as ‘Made in England’ whereas our products have even found markets in the UK,” states Yahya El Ghalayini, managing partner.
Under the brand DRain, the company manufactures a wide range of products such as drainage and rainwater fittings including elbows, floor trap covers and gully traps, according to British and Japanese production standards, which have gained wide popularity in the construction industry.
This brand was launched after careful research, he says, adding that ensuring quality and production standards has allowed the company to compete successfully with international companies. Ahmad Abdulla Juma Plastic Pipes and Fittings Industry Company claims to be the largest local supplier of plastic pipe fittings for drainage and rain water extraction in the UAE market, having a large distributor network within the UAE.
Much of the company’s products are consumed by the local market with the remainder going to all the GCC countries as well as Syria, Jordan, Egypt and even parts of Africa.
Ahmad Abdulla Juma Plastic Pipes and Fittings Industry Company was launched in 1974 as a trading concern dealing in plumbing materials whose quality and excellent service enabled it to gain a reputation in the local market. Its success in the region prompted it to establish two more companies – Stars Poly Storage Tanks Factory and Faris Plastic Pipes Factory – to extend the choice of products offered to the market.
Stars Poly Storage Tanks Factory was established in 1998 and manufactures quality water tanks while Faris Plastic Pipes Factory started operations in 2000 and produces PVC fittings for plumbing and water supply.
“We produce plastic (PVC) fittings for drainage systems used in the construction industry and supply about 40 tonnes monthly to the market. Our output is about one-and-half tonnes daily and our turnover is about Dh4 million ($1.1 million),” says El Ghalayini.
Elaborating on the advantages of plastic products, he says: “The best thing about PVC is that it has a long lifespan – does not corrode and so it is the ideal product for use in drainage systems in all constructions. An added value is the fact that it is easy to fit, light and easy to handle, besides being economical and easy on maintenance. Metal pipes can suffer corrosion and blockages, whereas PVC has a smooth internal surface and does not rust, which means no blockages.”
Some of the leading contractors using its products include Tiger Contracting Company and Sad Contracting Company, both of which have many projects in Sharjah.
