US industrial giant General Electric Company (GE) has won a landmark engineering and construction contract worth nearly $1 billion from Saudi Electricity Company (SEC) for its combined cycle power plant at Waad Al Shamal in the north of the kingdom. As per the deal, GE will deliver the turnkey power plant, supplying four advanced GE 7F.






The Saudi Saline Water Conversion Corporation (SWCC) has announced plans to invest about $80 billion by 2025 in a bid to boost desalinated water production to 8.5 million cu m per day. The state-run SWCC now produces 3.6 million cu m per day of desalinated water – a figure that will need to reach 8.






Saudi Arabia’s Al Afandi Group has announced plans to build the largest fully-integrated solar panels factory in the Middle East. The group has signed a property contract with the Royal Commission in Yanbu to build the state-of-the-art factory on a 55,000-sq-m area in the first phase of the project.






Zamil secures Posco contract Zamil Industrial Investment Company said one of its units has won a SR11.8-million ($3.14 million) contract from South Korea’s Posco Engineering & Construction Company (Posco E&C) for a first-of-its-kind sulphur railcar loading facility being developed by Saudi Aramco in Jubail.
