Infrastructural, real estate, tourism and industrial expansion will power the construction sector in Bahrain this year, as work on the country’s largest infrastructure project – the airport modernisation programme – reaches its halfway mark.






The Ministry of Works, Municipalities Affairs and Urban Planning (MoWMAUP) is investing millions of dollars to expand Bahrain’s road network, and among its major projects on the anvil is the Fourth Crossing, which forms an extension of the Muharraq Ring Road scheme.






Construction activity at Diyar Al Muharraq, off the Muharraq coast, is moving at a steady pace. The basic infrastructure for most of the projects that were launched has been completed, while further infrastructural developments are set to be announced this year, Diyar Al Muharraq officials told Gulf Construction during a media tour of the site.






Construction is under way on one of the finest luxurious housing projects in Bahrain that is set to be a distinctive landmark as one approaches the capital from Muharraq. The Al Tijaria Tower in Hoora will soar to a height of 46 floors, making it one of the tallest residential buildings in the country.






The first foreign aluminium systems company to establish a direct subsidiary in Bahrain to cover the Middle East market recently commemorated its first 20 years in the region at a gala event at the Four Seasons hotel.






The Modular system from Germany’s Paschal-Werk G Maier is fast becoming the formwork contractors in Bahrain turn to when constructing the vertical components of their  developments, according to a senior official representing the company in the region.






Bahrain-based Al Nooh Wood Design (AWD), a quality service provider in the fit-outs industry, is looking to boost its exports of bespoke furniture and specialised joinery items in the region. In line with this goal, the award-winning firm continues to expand its product range and capacity by adding specialised and high-capacity machinery.






Universal Rolling (Unirol), which stakes claim to being Bahrain’s biggest rebar producer, is planning to upgrade its facilities, and increase in production to wean the local market off rebar import. The company resumed production in February 2017 under a new ownership and management, starting with sizes ranging from 12 to 32 mm.






United Façade Design and Services (UFDS), an independent building materials/systems testing centre operated by Bahrain-based Facade Design and Services, has been awarded an additional scope of accreditation following assessment by ISO/IEC 17025 accreditation provider DAC.
