Dubai's Nakheel Properties, the developer of The Palm islands, is building a new property just off the plush Sheikh Zayed Road. Jumeirah Lake Towers comprises 45 towers that will encompass residential, office and retail outlets. The towers will be clustered together in groups of three and set amidst crystal clear lakes and flowing waterways.






Final designs for the planned Dubai Aid City are being drawn up. Dubai Aid City will be dedicated for use by the international aid community and will be located in the southern area of Jebel Ali Free Zone. It spreads across a 300,000 sq m plot on the south of Sheikh Zayed Road.






The Dubai International Financial Centre (DIFC) has chosen Nasa Multiplex as the general contractor on the Gate building of its proposed financial district. The building, which will house the DIFC's headquarters, is scheduled to be ready by July 2004. The piling and excavation work has already been completed.






RAK Ceramics has joined hands with Laticrete International of the US to form the Laticrete RAK joint venture company to offer useful, high-strength and durable tile installation products having unique properties. The manufacturing base of this joint venture will be at Ras Al Khaimah, for which work is on at a rapid pace.






Mott MacDonald has been appointed owner's engineer for the new Umm Al Nar power and desalination plant near Abu Dhabi. The client Arabian Power Company is 60 per cent owned by Abu Dhabi Water and Electricity Authority (Adwea) and 40 per cent by a consortium led by International Power and including Tokyo Electric Power Company and Mitsui.






Metito (Overseas) Limited has completed work on a Dh23 million ($6.2 million) contract to design, supply and install a state-of-the-art sewage treatment works at Das Island in Abu Dhabi.






Dubai-based Mostafa bin Abdullatif Group has awarded the design of Cascades, 62-apartment residential complex, to Arif and Bintoak of Dubai. The project is estimated to cost Dh70 million ($19 million). The 33,000-sq ft waterfront plot at Dubai Marina will accommodate a 17-storey tower to be tendered in July.






Emaar to spend $1bn on Burj DubaiDubai: Dubai developer Emaar Properties says it will spend about Dh3.9 billion ($1.06 billion) to build the world's tallest tower. Emaar chairman Mohammed Ali Alabbar said the height of the Burj Dubai (Dubai Tower) was not yet fixed, but it would be the tallest building in the world at the time of its completion.
