Arup in Qatar transportation project success
DOHA, November 23, 2014
Arup, a leading UK-based based company providing engineering, design, planning, project management and consulting services, has deployed Building Information Modeling (BIM) for its $30 million transportation projects in Doha, Qatar
BIM methodologies have become commonplace in most industries but are still new and largely not accepted as standard practice in transportation. This process improvement has resulted in significant cost and time savings, said the company in a statement.
Oscar Julián, BIM manager infrastructure department, Arup, said the company has already produced the first projects using civil BIM strategy, saving 30 per cent of costs.
The use of BIM has provided Arup Madrid with integrated project delivery, improving project performance, while reducing costs and delivery times, he added.
Arup has been using Bentley software to design 90 per cent of its installations including Aecosim Building Designer for structures, buildings, and utilities; InRoads for road design; and SewerCad and WaterCad for water networks.-TradeArabia News Service
