Oman expressway tunnel work 80pc completed

Oman's Ministry of Transport and Communication has announced that work is in full swing at the Sharqiyah Expressway project site with 80 per cent of the tunnels already completed, said a report.
As for Nidab Tunnel, civil work and testing has been completed. Currently, electro-mechanical work is being executed, reported Times of Oman, citing senior officials.
A special construction system was used for the first time in Oman to complete the bridges, which included using special cranes for bridge construction work, carrying units as heavy as 100 tonnes. Furthermore, 90,000 cu m of concrete was used in the bridges, in addition to 15,000 tonnes of iron, stated the report.
“The tunnels that are between 30- to 90-m-long have been fully completed," said the officials.
"As for Al Uq tunnel, excavation work has been fully completed along with protection and rock stability work, and it is currently being padded with concrete,” they added.
