Saudi Arabia has allocated funds worth $50 million for the restoration of ramshackle buildings  located in the historical sites of old Jeddah, said a report.

The fund was donated by HRH Prince Mohammed bin Salman bin Abdulaziz, Crown Prince, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Defence as a first phase for rehabilitation of these architectural landmarks in a bid to preserve the ancient legacy of the kingdom, reported SPA.

The valuable contribution from HRH Crown Prince will help back up projects that maintain the historical and cultural features of the kingdom, it stated.

The rehabilitation of these parts of the Saudi city falls in line with Unesco's prerequisites to enlist Ancient Jeddah on the World Heritage List, in line with the Kingdom Vision 2030, said the SPA report.

In his directive, HRH Crown Prince instructed that the restoration project shall be done by Saudi nationals, under well experienced supervisors specialised in the domain, to keep the distinctive appearance of Ancient Jeddah and its unique architectural features that reflect troves of edifices that go back to over 500 years in history, it added.
