Six dead in Oman worksite collapse due to heavy rains
MUSCAT, November 12, 2019
In a tragic incident, six expat workers were buried alive when heavy rains flooded their construction site in Seeb region of Oman, said media reports.
The six were working on a section of a pipe that was 14 m below the ground at a piping project in Seeb, when they got trapped under mud and water, reported the Times of Oman.
Rescue officials rushed to save them, but despite their best efforts, could only recover their bodies, which were found in the nearly 300-m-long section of concrete pipe.
"Despite the heavy rainfall, the workers were carrying out the work at the site,” said a Public Authority for Civil Defence and Ambulance (PACDA) official.
“They were positioned inside the tunnel, but suddenly, the rainwater came in, and they could not make it outside. This, unfortunately, led to their death," he added.
