Mapei boosts the sustainable build of Expo 2020 Dubai
DUBAI, October 28, 2021
Mapei Construction Chemicals, a fully-owned subsidiary of Mapei Group, a global leader in the manufacture of adhesives, sealants and chemical products for the construction industry, has announced its participation at Expo 2020 Dubai as a major partner of the Italy Pavilion.
It has delivered over 30 eco-friendly products, weighing more than 100 tonnes for resin and cement-based floors, installing ceramics and marbles, wall finishes and water proofing solutions towards the sustainable build of the pavilion.
Mapei has applied its innovative ciruclarity approach to build the state-of-the-art pavilion made from recyclable products.
It has partnered with the Italian Commissioner’s Office, the governing body responsible for organizing and managing Italy’s presence at the Universal Exposition, and with lead architects from the conceptualization phase, to bring to life a unique blend of the Emirati flair coupled with the Italian culture at this year’s World Expo.
Designed with the concept of innovatively using recycled materials in the build of the pavilion, Mapei has recreated real sand dunes and coated a suspended walkway within the Italy Pavilion through the use of coffee beans and a special powder made from orange-peel.
Mapei’s Techical Services team further provided 360-degree involvement from the initial conception of the project, using groundbreaking engineering technology to extend the Italian group’s contributions; overcoming challenges and aggressive site conditions, bringing the conceptualised ‘Beauty Uniting People’ pavilion to life at Expo 2020 Dubai.
The Italian building products manufacturer has cemented its presence at Expo 2020 Dubai, attaining various exemplary projects leading up to and within the Expo site.
In total, it had supplied over 200 sustainable products to more than 55 pavilions, 16 zones and 60 areas across Expo 2020 Dubai, weighing over 8,500 tonnes.
Mapei also contributed towards the build of the 14,000 sq m landscaping feature at the UAE Pavilion - the largest landscaping feature at Expo 2020 Dubai; supplying products from its ceramic and resillient line to over 10,000 sq m of landscaping and water features, as well as supporting in the sustainable build of the Rove Hotel at Al Wasl Plaza – the epicenter of the Expo site.
It locally produced and supplied products from its ceramic, resillient and buidling lines; from dynamic landscaping features to the build of ‘back of house areas’ and flooring of the Mobility Pavilion.
The company was further able to bring its green vision to life at the Sustainability Pavilion, showcasing products from its building and ceramic lines across various areas, including internal flooring, external hard landscaped and wet areas.
Group CEO Veronica Squinzi said: "The UAE has been for many years a strategic market for us and we are proud to be part of its ambitious and comprehensive plans for a sustainable urban development. For the coming years Mapei looks forward to continue playing its role in making the UAE an even better connected and a more environmentally-resilient country."
The Italian group contributed towards the build of the 15-km-long Dubai Metro station extensions leading to the Expo site - Route 2020 - and supporting in the build and repair of the 15-building residential complex for the Expo delegation – Expo Village.
"Sustainability and innovation are essential tools required to build a future that has minimal impact on the environment and infrastructure systems across the world," remarked Stefano Iannacone, the director for Middle East and Africa, Mapei Group.
"We are proud to showcase our vision of a better future through Mapei’s innovative and eco-friendy product ranges, which helped bring Expo 2020 Dubai to life. As an Italian organization, we are proud to be a part of Italian history and represent the country on such a pretigious global platform," he added.-TradeArabia News Service
