Fire at Kuwait airport's under-construction terminal building

KUWAIT CITY, March 28, 2022

A fire broke out in the basement and the ground floor of the new under-construction terminal building (T2) inside Kuwait International Airport which quickly spread to a part of the first floor before before a team of firefighters doused it, reported Arab Times, citing civil aviation authorities.

The General Administration of Civil Aviation (GACA) tweeted saying that air traffic at Kuwait airport was proceeding normally and had not been affected by the blaze.

Earlier in the day, the official spokesman for the Ministry of Public Works Engineer Ahmed Saad Al Saleh, said: "A part of the new Kuwait International Airport (T2) project was exposed to a limited fire this morning and the fire is being dealt with by the Public Fire Service."

Media reports said firefighting personnel from six units were deployed to battle the fire.

Photos shared on social media showed dark, billowing smoke behind the lines of planes on the runway, even as civil aviation authorities said no casualties had been reported.
