Alba hits new Line 6 milestone with 560,000 MT capacity

Aluminium Bahrain (Alba), the world’s largest aluminium smelter ex-China, has hit a new milestone in Reduction Line 6 with the recent creep which has seen its production capacity increase from 540,000 metric tonnes per annum (mtpa) to 560,000 mtpa by increasing the current from 460 kA to 478 kA.
Commissioned ahead of schedule on December 13, 2018, the Line 6 was gradually ramped up over the course of 2019 bringing Alba’s today nameplate production capacity to more 1.6 million mtpa, said a satement from Alba.
Celebrating the achievement, Alba’s Chairman of the Board Shaikh Daij bin Salman bin Daij Al Khalifa said: "We have gone bigger with expanding Line 6 nameplate production capacity for the better. This new milestone is important for Alba, now and in the future as we continue to strive to improve our operational productivity and efficiency while keeping Alba on track to rank as the largest smelter in the world ex-China."
A blue-chip asset of the Kingdom of Bahrain, Alba produces high-quality aluminium products in the form of standard and value-added Products (VAP), which are exported to more than 240 global customers through its sales offices in Europe (Zurich), Asia (Singapore) and subsidiary office in the US.
At plus-1.6 million metric tonnes per annum (mtpa) (2022), Alba is the world’s largest aluminium smelter ex-China with more than 50 years of excellence in Operations, Safety, Environment and Socio-Economic Development.
"I would like to applaud our teams for creeping-up safely our Line 6 assets in the last couple of months to expand its throughput all the while optimizing our fixed cost structure," stated Shaikh Daij.
"Witnessing Line 6 success and its contributions to Alba’s operational and financial performance since 2019, we are now keen more than ever to move forward with Line 7 smelter, he added.-TradeArabia News Service
