Turkish builder Limak lands $765m Kuwait terminal contract

KUWAIT CITY, September 12, 2023

Leading Turkish construction major Limak has secured a KD236 million ($764.87 million) project from the government of Kuwait to build a part of a new terminal at Kuwait International Airport, reported Reuters.
 
As per the contract, the Turkish company will build a package of aircraft parking aprons, taxiways and service buildings, it stated, citing the Kuwaiti official gazette.
 
Once the $4.34-billion new airport terminal get operational, it is expected to triple the capacity of Kuwait’s airport to 25 million passengers per year.
 
Limak had earlier said that the first stage of the new terminal will be built with a capacity of 13 million passengers capacity and (with) further improvement later it can be expanded up to 25 million. 
 
Kuwait’s civil aviation ministry had in July sought bids from six prequalified companies for the operation, maintenance and development of the international airport, including T2 and its affiliated aircraft aprons, reported Kuna.
 
These included GMR Airports (India), Fraport AG Frankfurt Airport Services Worldwide and Munich Airport International (Germany), Incheon International Airport Corporation (South Korea), TAV Airport Holding (Türkiye) and Daa International (Ireland).
