Excavation contract for New Murabba project awarded to China firm

Saudi Arabia's New Murabba Development Company has signed an earthworks excavation contract with China Harbour Engineering for the ambitious giga project coming up in downtown Riyadh.
The contract is for the first phase of excavation required for the basement structures underneath the Mukaab, an iconic cubic-shaped structure, and surrounding podiums.
The Mukaab features the latest innovative technologies and will be one of the largest built structures in the world at 400 m high, 400 m wide, and 400 m long to take a cubic shape to ensure ultimate utilisation of space.
The contract was signed by Eng Sabah Barakat, Acting CEO of New Murabba Development Company, and Qiao Yongli, General Manager - Branch of China Harbour Engineering.
The scope of work also includes the backfilling and ground improvements of the surrounding development areas.
The award of this contract to China Harbour Engineering, as well as a number of other contracts to key partners, helps ensure that the New Murabba and the Mukaab can be delivered as per their ambitious vision and will contribute to developing the largest modern downtown in the world in line with the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia’s Vision 2030, a statement said.
Massive project
New Murabba is located at the intersection of King Salman and King Khalid roads to the northwest of Riyadh over an area of 19 sq km and set to accommodate hundreds of thousands of residents.
The New Murabba will offer more than 25 million sq km of floor area, 104,000 residential units, 9,000 hotel rooms, 980,000 sq m of retail space, 1.4 million sq m of office space, 620,000 sq m of leisure assets, and 1.8 million sq m of community facilities.
The project has several sustainability-focused features including green areas and walking and cycling paths. It will feature a 15-minute walking radius and have its own internal transport system with a 20-minute drive from the airport.
The project will also include an iconic museum, a technology and design university, a multipurpose immersive theatre, and more than 80 entertainment and cultural venues. -TradeArabia News Service
