Strabag wins Sultan Haitham City Phase One contract

Strabag, the largest builder in Austria and one of the leading construction companies in Europe, has secured the preliminary works contract for Phase One of Oman's ambitious project - Sultan Haitham City - coming up in capital Muscat.
A mega development coming up on a 15 million-sq-m area, the Sultan Haitham City will boast 20,000 residential units along with several key modern lifestyle amenities as well as 2.9 million sq m of green spaces.
The contract worth RO7 million ($18.1 million) was awarded by the Ministry of Housing and Urban Planning to the Omani unit of Strabag.
The Austrian builder said the first phase of infrastructure preparation work has already begun and will continue for next three months, covering an area of more than 6 million sq m.
The scope of work includes readying the basic road infrastructure as well as rainwater drainage system along the valley and development of the area adjoining the central park within the City.
It also involves the levelling of the rainwater course (the wadi) for establishing a 1.6 million sq m central park and treating other components within a total area of 35 km.
On completion, the City, which will be spread over 19 neighbourhoods, will be home to nearly 100,000 residents.-TradeArabia News Service
