Marafiq completes work on Jeddah sewage treatment plant

Saudi utility major Marafiq has announced that its key unit, Jeddah Althaniya Water Company, has been awarded the certificate by Saudi Water Partnership Company (SWPC) to kick off commercial operations at an independent sewage treatment plant in Jeddah with a total capacity of 300,000 cu m per day following the work completion.
The project targets to fulfil the growing needs to treat sanitary wastewater in Jeddah by implementing the newest technologies by presenting; high treatment efficiency, low energy consumption, said Marafiq in its filing to Saudi bourse Tadawul.
The design and layout of the plant is being developed to produce treated effluent suitable for water reuse and using its sludge for industrial and commercial purposes, it stated.
Marafiq had in 2019 partnered with Veolia and Amwal AlKhaleejiah to set up a new entity - Jeddah Althaniya Water Company - for developing the 300,000-cu-m capacity sewage project.
With a 45% stake in Jeddah Althaniya Water Company, Marafiq is the largest shareholder in the company.
Jeddah Althaniya Water Company had in 2019 inked a partnership deal with SWPC, for providing sewage treatment services. This will continue for 25 years from the commercial operation date of the project, it stated.
Moreover, the project will contribute significantly to raise the level of services to attain environment sustainability by preserving natural environment, enhancing resource use efficiency, through leveraging private sector expertise in water and agriculture systems, developing local contents, and to achieve the development goals of Kingdom’s Vision 2030.
The financial impact of operating the project will appear on the company’s financial results for the fourth quarter of 2023, it added.-TradeArabia News Service
