Bahrain’s Electricity and Water Authority (EWA) has floated tenders for the construction of a 44MW solar power plant within the campus of University of Bahrain (UOB). The facility will consist of a ground-mounted solar array and several photovoltaic carports.
To be implemented on a turnkey basis, the project covers engineering, design, manufacturing, supply of materials, installation, testing, commissioning, and civil and electromechanical works, said EWA in a statement. The deadline for submitting bids has been set at December 1.
This comes in line with Bahrain's aim to boost its solar generation capacity to 255 MW by next year through use of net metering as well as tenders for large-scale projects, and a renewable energy mandate for new buildings, it stated.
According to Ewa, the kingdom’s renewable energy target envisages 700 MW of solar, wind and energy-from-waste generation capacity by 2030, it added.
