Oman's Nama Water Services company has kicked off work on a key water distribution project in the Al Dhahirah governorate being implemented at a total cost of RO235 million ($609 million), said a top official.
The project, designed to provide 22,000 water metre connections, will benefit more than 270,000 people in the governorate's three wilayats of Ibri, Yanqul and Dhank, stated Mohammed Harib Al Makhmari, the Project’s Director at Nama Water Services.
The project kicked off early this month and is expected to be completed by Q2 2028, he added.
With this, Nama Water Services aims to expand the system of water distribution networks to meet the growing population in Al Dhahirah governorate, besides enhancing the strategic storage of water in these wilayats to cater to future demand until the year 2050, based on population growth and urban expansion data.
"The move is aimed at providing safe and sustainable drinking water to all residents in the wilayats of Al Dhahirah Governorate," noted Al Makhmari.
Once completed, the total number of water metre connections is envisaged to reach about 500,000 connections by 2050, he added.-TradeArabia News Service
