Tough security measures for Bahrain schools

Manama, January 28, 2012

Tough new security measures are being put in place for Bahrain's government schools including new surveillance cameras and extra guards besides 24-hour patrols after a string of arson attacks.

The measures follow more than 25 arson attacks on schools in the last four months.

The latest happened at the Shahrakan Elementary School for girls in Duraz last week, which caused a fire near the institution's electricity room. Security guards put it out before it could spread.

Education minister Dr Majid Al Nuaimi, said his ministry is also working to ensure the safety of students and raising awareness among parents and the community so that they get involved in protecting educational facilities.

The other tough measures include new surveillance cameras, alarm systems, additional fire-fighting equipment, extra security guards and 24-hour patrols, said officials.-TradeArabia News Service
