Students aged 15+ can apply for a UAE work permit
DUBAI, September 12, 2021
The UAE has announced that students aged 15 and above would be allowed to work in the country under a temporary visa scheme as part of a series of reforms to mark its golden jubilee.
The news came as the nation embarks on an ambitious growth strategy under the 'Projects of the 50' initiative being undertaken to push for greater national and economic growth, Khaleej Times reported.
Emiratis as well as expat teens — who are aged between 15 and 18 and residing in the country can get the work permit, which will be valid for a period not exceeding one year, provided they meet the stipulated conditions like valid residence visa, parent's or guardian's approval, medical fitness among others.
Working hours will not exceed six hours per day and working overtime or on holidays as well as working at night or strenuous jobs will not be allowed.
Applications shall be processed at Tas'heel service centres or through establishments participating in the labour ministry's e-forms programme.
If all the conditions are met, the customer can print the approval notice by visiting the website www.mol.gov.ae.
As for the costs of the permit, request for initial approval is AED100 ($27) and on approval it will be AED500.
A students' training form is also available online for free on the ministry's website, at Tas'heel service centres, as well as on the Wajjehni app.
The form will enable them to enrol in the private sector for training purposes.
