Alba honours its 'sustainability champions'
RIYADH, February 4, 2024
Aluminium Bahrain has announced that nine of its Bahraini employees have successfully completed their professional diploma in waste management (PDWM) from Arabian Gulf University (AGU).
One of the largest smelters in the world, Alba boasts over 1.62 million metric tonnes per annum (mtpa) production, buoyed by its more than 50 years of excellence in operations, safety, environment and socio-economic development.
Commending the achievement, Alba CEO Ali Al Baqali said: "This is not just a certificate; it is about creating a cultural shift where our graduates rewrite the narrative of our impact. The certificate is offered by AGU’s Department of Natural Resources & Environment, College of Graduate Studies, supported by United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP)."
He was speaking at the ceremony held recently at the Alba premises.
With seven more Alba employees currently enrolled in the same certification, Alba has underlined its commitment to the third pillar of its Environment, Social and governance (ESG) roadmap ’Circular Economy and Secondary Aluminium’, by equipping its employees from diverse functions with the know-hows that will boost sustainable, innovative and integrated waste management practices in Alba.
A blue-chip asset of the Kingdom of Bahrain, Alba produces high-quality aluminium products in the form of standard and value-added products (VAP)s, which are exported to more than 240 global customers through its sales offices in Europe (Zurich), Asia (Singapore) and subsidiary office in the US.
As the first aluminium smelter in the Middle East, Alba sits at the heart of a thriving aluminium downstream sector in Bahrain, which accounts for approximately 12% of the Kingdom's GDP. It is dual listed on Bahrain Bourse and London Stock Exchange.-TradeArabia News Service
