Bahrain bakeries urged to reduce salt in bread

MANAMA, June 9, 2015

Bakeries in Bahrain are being urged to reduce the salt content of their bread.

Health authorities are planning to step up efforts to cut out sodium from recipes, said a report in the Gulf Daily News (GDN), our sister publication.

A proposal was discussed when Health Minister Sadiq Al Shehabi chaired the fourth meeting of the national committee on non-communicable chronic diseases.

The proposed plan targets traditional and modern bakeries and aims to reduce salt from 10 per cent at present to 0.5 per cent within two years. - TradeArabia News Service
