Alarm over collapsing ecosystems in Bahrain

MANAMA, November 17, 2015

A new study has shown that Bahrain’s ecosystems are deteriorating due to an increase in natural and human pressures. Marine environment constitutes 91 per cent of Bahrain’s total area with it encompassing more than 9,500 sq km, while land area is less than 800 sq km including coral atolls, locally known as fashts, said a report in the Gulf Daily News (GDN), our sister publication.
