Bahrain Specialist Hospital to organise Diabetes Cycleathon
MANAMA, November 11, 2021
Bahrain Specialist Hospital will organise a Diabetes Cycleathon to promote the importance of physical exercise in managing, treating, and preventing diabetes.
On November 13 at 8 am, the hospital will host the cycleathon at its premises in Juffair. The hospital has urged people to join the BSH Diabetes Cycleathon in large numbers to spread awareness and defeat diabetes. The activitiy is part of the Diabetes Awareness Month of November.
According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) of US, being physically active makes your body more sensitive to insulin (the hormone that permits your body's cells to utilise blood sugar for energy), which aids with diabetes management. Physical activity also lowers the risk of cardiovascular diseases and nerve damage by helping to control blood sugar levels.
Dr Kasim O Ardati, Bahrain Specialist Hospital’s Managing Director, said: “The adoption of physical activities in our daily regime is critical for blood glucose management and overall health in individuals with diabetes and prediabetes. Exercises improve blood glucose control in Type 2 diabetes, reduce cardiovascular risk factors, contributes to weight-loss and improves overall well-being. Cycling is an effective physical activity and a great form of aerobic exercise that may help reduce the risk of diabetes.” - TradeArabia News Service
