Bahrain on right track towards achieving net zero, says minister

Bahrain is interested in reducing carbon emissions by taking the necessary measures and initiatives within the framework of its commitment to achieving zero carbon neutrality by the year 2060, reported BNA, citing a senior minister.
This interest is reflected in the projects being implemented by the government, under the leadership of His Majesty King Hamad bin Isa Al Khalifa, and led by His Royal Highness Prince Salman bin Hamad Al Khalifa, the Crown Prince and Prime Minister, stated Electricity and Water Affairs Minister, Yasser bin Ibrahim Humaidan.
It is also evident in the kingdom's keenness to activate the international agreements related to achieving sustainable development, as well as its commitment to its role in the international community, and interest in issues related to addressing climate change, he added
The minister was addressing a gathering at the second edition of the World Utilities Congress, which is being held in Abu Dhabi.
He highlighted the importance of stepping up cooperation among different countries in order to achieve common goals represented in protecting the planet, and achieving sustainability in line with international conventions, taking into account the advancement of developing countries, reported BNA.
Bahrain has placed the future of energy, resource development and sustainability among its national priorities, said Ibrahim Humaidan, adding that work is underway to develop infrastructure and prepare programmes and strategies at the national level, to achieve the desired goals of Bahrain's National Renewable Energy Action Plan (NREAP) and National Energy Efficiency Action Plan (NEEAP).
The minister later took part in the session entitled "Strengthening ambition en route to COP28 and beyond", alongside a number of energy ministers from the UAE, Egypt and Romania to discuss regional and national commitments to reduce emissions before the COP 28 climate conference, it added.
