Iran to resume US carpet sales post sanctions lift
Iran to resume carpet sales to US from early 2016
IRAN, November 1, 2015
The export of Iranian hand-woven carpets to the US will resume from early 2016, a report said.
Talks on inviting American traders, carpet experts and journalists to Iran are underway, Hamid Kargar, head of Iran National Carpet Centre, was quoted as saying in an Iran Daily report, citing Mehr News Agency
As part of intensified US sanctions against Iran, a ban was placed on Iranian carpet in 2010.
Prior to that, the US was the main destination for Iranian exports with more than $82 million worth of imports each year accounting for 16.5 per cent of Iran's total annual carpet export, said the report.
As part of the July nuclear deal between Iran and world powers, sanctions against Iran, including the US ban on Iranian carpet, are to be lifted, added the report.
