China hikes tariffs on $60bn of US goods

BEIJING, May 14, 2019

China has hit back in its trade war with the US, announcing plans to impose tariffs on $60 billion of American imports, a media report said.

Tariffs will be imposed on 5,140 US products with an annual value of about $60 billion from 1 June, reported Wam, citing the Chinese finance ministry.

"China’s adjustment on additional tariffs is a response to US unilateralism and protectionism," the Ministry said.

"China hopes the US will get back to the right track of bilateral trade and economic consultations and meet with China halfway."
