Quest partners with Modest for waterproofing, solar energy

DUBAI, August 8, 2023

Quest Vitamins Middle East, a leading provider of nutritional supplements and pharmaceuticals, has partnered with Modest Company for revolutionising its manufacturing operations via a Solar Photovoltaic (PV) System.

With the integration of a roof-mounted PV System, Quest Vitamins will now harness the power of the sun, reduce its carbon footprint, and evolve its manufacturing facility into a more sustainable-powered operation.

Under the agreement signed in December 2022, Modest Company was responsible for the design, supply, installation, commissioning of the PV system, as well as its operations and maintenance, ensuring a seamless and hassle-free transition to solar power.

Metal roof waterproofing system
Compliance and adherence to strict industry standards was ensured to fulfil the requirements of all relevant authorities. Prior to the installation of the PV system, Modest Company applied a specialised metal roof waterproofing system with sealants manufactured by TOPPS Products USA.

This comprehensive waterproofing solution guarantees a trouble-free roof throughout the life of the PV system, providing a watertight roof and ensuring the longevity of the infrastructure. Furthermore, solar panels have been installed on aluminium structures fixed to the roofs with meticulous attention to waterproofing at each penetration on Quest Vitamins’ metal warehouse roofs as well as on its office building roof. All available roof space was utilised to maximise energy generation.

Installed as a grid-connected system under Dewa’s Shams Dubai net metering initiative, the system allows Quest Vitamins Middle East to feed the surplus electricity generated by the solar panels back into the grid, thereby significantly reducing its electricity requirement from Dewa and promoting the use of renewable energy.

Clean energy
The system generates clean, renewable energy to power Quest Vitamins Middle East’s manufacturing operations via a total of 491 high-efficiency monocrystalline solar panels from Jinko Solar, and two inverters from the renowned German manufacturer SMA. The total annual power of 450MWh generated by the system will offset over 375 tonnes of CO2 emissions per year.

Dr Ahmed Hassam, Chairman of Quest Vitamins Middle East, said: "We believe it is our duty to invest in sustainable practices that not only benefit our business but also contribute to a greener future. The collaboration with Modest Company aligns perfectly with our vision, and we are confident that this project will add value to the UAE’s vision of promoting sustainability in the country, as demonstrated by the UAE hosting COP28 later this year."

Mohamed Hassam, Group Managing Director at Quest Vitamins Middle East, added: “As a responsible member of the health industry, this initiative complements our aims to ensure long-term health benefits to all citizens of the world, by protecting our environment and minimising our carbon footprint. We will continue to explore all opportunities available to further this objective.”

Askary Khimjee, Director at Modest Company, said: "By combining our expertise in roof waterproofing and Solar PV systems, we are confident that Quest Vitamins Middle East will achieve outstanding results in terms of energy efficiency and environmental impact, all while ensuring a leak-free roof. We look forward to working closely with them on this journey."-- TradeArabia News Service
