British Prime Minister Boris Johnson has been moved to intensive care in a hospital after his coronavirus symptoms "worsened", reported BBC citing the Downing Street.

 

He has asked Foreign Secretary Dominic Raab to deputise "where necessary", a spokesman said.

 

Johnson, 55, tested positive for the virus on March 26. He was admitted to St Thomas' Hospital in London with "persistent symptoms" on Sunday.

 

The PM was moved on the advice of his medical team and is receiving "excellent care", he stated.

 

"Since Sunday evening, the prime minister has been under the care of doctors at St Thomas' Hospital, in London, after being admitted with persistent symptoms of coronavirus," said the spokesman.

 

“Over the course of this afternoon, the PM's condition has worsened and, on the advice of his medical team, he has been moved to the Intensive Care Unit (ICU) at the hospital,” he added.

 

“The PM has asked Raab, who is the First Secretary of State, to deputise for him where necessary.”
