10 REPUBLICANS SAY ‘YES’

President Trump impeached for historic second time

WASHINGTON, January 14, 2021

Donald Trump has become first president in US history to be impeached twice, as 10 of his fellow Republicans sided with Democrats in the US House of Representatives to charge him for "incitement of insurrection" at last week's Capitol riot, media reports said.

A total of 10Republicans joined Democrats to impeach the president by 232-197, reported BBC.

Trump now face a trial in the Senate, where if convicted he could face being barred from ever holding office again.

However, he is not facing the risk of having to quit the White House before leaving office on January 20 following his election defeat last November to Democrat Joe Biden since the Senate will not reconvene in time, the report said.

Shortly after the vote, Trump released a video statement condemning last week's violence, but did not mention impeachment.

The Democratic-controlled House voted on Wednesday after several hours of debate as armed National Guard troops kept watch inside and outside the Capitol, the BBC report said.

The FBI has warned of possible armed protests planned for Washington DC and all 50 US state capitals ahead of Biden's inauguration next week, it added.
