Ooredoo unit officially launches Gaza operations

Ooredoo, an international communications company operating across the Middle East and North Africa (Mena) region said its Palestinian unit Wataniya Mobile, has officially launched its operations in Gaza.

The move comes as part of Ooredoo's continuous efforts to improve and enhance its services in the markets where it operates, said a senior official.

Wataniya Mobile will now be able to provide the residents of Gaza with an alternative option for advanced communications services directly through its shops and authorised dealers in the Strip, stated Sheikh Abdulla bin Mohammed bin Saud Al Thani, the chairman of Ooredoo.

He was speaking at the launch event in Gaza, which was attended by top Ooredoo executives including Group CEO Sheikh Saud bin Nasser Al Thani, Deputy Group CEO Waleed Al Sayed; Group chief officer of SMEs besides Khaled Al Mahmoud and Mustafa Al Qatami, the senior director of Branding and Corporate Communications at Ooredoo Qatar.

"We are delighted and very excited to launch our services in Gaza, as part of our efforts to become the leading integrated ICT provider in Palestine and provide a full range of customised services to our customers," noted Sheikh Abdulla.

"Since 2006, when we announced our intention to grow our business internally, we have worked tirelessly to remove all obstacles that prevented Wataniya Mobile from entering Gaza officially, and we have succeeded," he stated.

Sheikh Saud said: "This great achievement will enable us to meet the digital needs of people there, and provide them with advanced technologies that, undoubtedly, will improve their digital experience and give them access to a whole world of creativity and innovation."

"Our goal now is to enable Palestinian youth to enjoy the internet and help them achieve their dreams and aspirations through the services we provide.
