Bahrain to get direct access to global cable system

Bahrain will get direct access to a global cable system with complete independency for the first time, thanks to a $60 million investment by Beyon in SEA-ME-WE 6, a global connectivity system.
Beyon, through Bahrain-based telco Batelco, has announced its biggest investment in global connectivity in a consortium of 16 major international telecom companies to build SEA-ME-WE 6, that will connect 14 countries across 3 continents.
The investment will position Beyon among one of the biggest investors in the global submarine cable consortium. The SEA-ME-WE 6 cable is the newest and most advanced in the cable’s history since the first cable was launched in 1985.
The 19,500 km-long SEA-ME-WE 6 cable system will provide a new gateway to the Gulf, creating a layer of network diversity and resilience for the heavily used routes connecting the Middle East towards Europe and Asia. It will offer one of the lowest latencies available and the capability of transferring more than 100,000 Gigabits per second of data serving international carriers and companies including the likes of Netflix, YouTube and Google, leading to improved performance and better experience for residents in Bahrain.
