Brunei granted sovereignty over data in Bahrain centres

In a major move, Bahrain has granted the Sultanate of Brunei Darussalam sovereignty over its data on the kingdom’s cloud Computing data centers, on the sidelines of the official visit of His Majesty Sultan Hassanal Bolkiah of Brunei to the Kingdom.
An agreement was signed in this regard by Shaikh Salman bin Khalifa Al Khalifa, Minister of Finance and National Economy, and Dato Seri Setia Dr Awang Haji Muhammad Amin Liew bin Abdullah, the Minister at the Brunei Prime Minister's Office and Second Minister of Finance and Economy.
Commenting on the occasion, Information & eGovernment Authority (iGA) Chief Executive Mohammed Ali Al Qaed affirmed the strength of bilateral relations between Bahrain and Brunei in various fields.
Al Qaed underlined the kingdom's keenness to open broader avenues of cooperation and coordination between the two countries to achieve common goals and enhance the exchange of expertise across all fields, including those related to ICT and digital economy.
He pointed out that the move was in accordance with Law No. (56) of 2018 concerning the provision of cloud computing services to foreign parties.
It is in line with continued efforts to enhance the exchange of expertise in digital transformation between the two sides, he added.
