Future of Bahrain's broadband discussed at BTECH Majlis

The future of broadband services in Bahrain and the vital role played by broadband in bolstering internet infrastructure development were discussed by a panel organised recently as part of BTECH Majlis.
 
As part of the activities of the monthly BTECH (Bahrain Technology Companies Society) Majlis, the event brought together technology companies, experts, and specialists, the panel aimed to facilitate the exchange of experiences, knowledge, and innovative solutions to advance the ICT sector in Bahrain.
 
The interactive panel discussion witnessed the presence of esteemed individuals in the field, including Ahmed Al-Doseri, the CEO of BNET, Maitham Hassan, the Chief Operating Officer of Batelco, Ahmed Al-Sharif, the Chief Technology and Digital Officer of STC, and Philip Marnick, the CEO of TRA. The session was moderated by Rashid Al Snan, a distinguished BTECH Board Member.
 
Technical and operational obstacles
During the session, various topics were addressed, including the future outlook of broadband technology in Bahrain, the utilisation of cutting-edge technologies for delivering high-speed internet services, an in-depth analysis of the technical and operational obstacles hindering the advancement of internet infrastructure, a dedicated focus on government regulations and policies that foster the development of broadband services, as well as showcasing successful examples of organisations that have leveraged the benefits of broadband capabilities. 
 
Additionally, practical strategies and approaches were shared to guide companies in adopting these services effectively and generating sustainable value.
 
The speakers emphasised the crucial role of broadband service development in driving economic and social progress within the ICT sector. They highlighted the necessity for collaboration and coordination among the public and private sectors, as well as professional associations. 
 
Digital infrastructure
A key focus was placed on advancing digital infrastructure, providing training and qualifications to support this domain, thereby enhancing the quality of technical services and bolstering the competitiveness of Bahrain's technology sector at regional and global scales.

The speakers further emphasised the immense potential that lies ahead in the realm of broadband technology, underscoring the numerous opportunities it presents for the advancement of Bahrain's technology sector. 
 
They highlighted the growing adoption of transformative technologies such as 5G, artificial intelligence, and cloud computing in the evolution of broadband services. 
 
Consequently, they stressed the need for substantial investments in infrastructure and the requisite technologies to support these transformative shifts and realise the desired objectives for the development of broadband services in Bahrain.
 
Market intelligence
Ahmed AlHujairy, BTECH Board Senior Advisor, delivered a presentation titled "Bahrain Market Intelligence" in which he discussed the development of the ICT sector in Bahrain and its transformation into a regional hub for technology and innovation by leveraging its current capabilities and providing a fertile ground for ICT companies to grow. He noted that the technology market in Bahrain represents a significant opportunity for Bahraini youth to develop their skills and work in one of the fastest-growing sectors in the world.
