Humanoid robots to take center stage at ITU press conference
GENEVA, April 12, 2023
Nine humanoid social robots and their creators will be present at an unprecedented press conference during the upcoming AI for Good Global Summit hosted by the International Telecommunication Union (ITU).
The event, scheduled for July 7 in Geneva, will also feature over 40 specialised robots demonstrating their abilities in areas such as firefighting, healthcare, sustainable farming, and construction, said a Wam news agency report.
Among the notable robots set to appear are Beonmi, the world's first fully functional general-purpose humanoid robot, and Nadine, one of the world's most realistic humanoid social robots. Sophia, the first robot Innovation Ambassador for the United Nations Development Programme, and Geminoid, an ultra-realistic humanoid robot from Japan, will also be present.
The conference aims to facilitate networking, build partnerships, and inspire new projects that advance the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) through cutting-edge AI solutions.
One of the key themes of discussion will be generative AI and human-machine collaboration, which have gained increased public interest following the release of large language models like ChatGPT. The event aims to facilitate networking, build partnerships, and inspire new projects that advance the SDGs.
The conference will also include AI-inspired performances and artwork, including a real-time AI drumming performance by Jojo Mayer and a machine-inspired voice performance by Harry Yeff (REEPS100). The final round of the AI for Good Innovation Factory, where start-ups from around the world will pitch their AI solutions to advance the SDGs, will also be hosted during the event.
