Major cabinet reshuffle in UAE; Hamdan appointed Deputy PM

In a major cabinet reshuffle, Dubai's Crown Prince Sheikh Hamdan bin Mohammed has been appointed Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Defence of UAE. As per the decree, Sheikh Abdullah bin Zayed Al Nahyan too has been named Deputy Prime Minister.
Following consultations with President His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed, who also endorsed these changes, additional appointments were made to further solidify the leadership and operational efficiency across various sectors, stated Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice-President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai, while announcing sweeping changes to the federal government.
As part of the cabinet reshuffle, Sheikh Abdullah bin Zayed Al Nahyan retains his role as the Minister of Foreign Affairs and has also been appointed Deputy Prime Minister.
Included in the changes was the restructuring of the Council for Education, Human Resources and Community Development in the UAE.
Sheikh Abdullah will head the council, along with his Vice President Sheikha Maryam bin Zayed, who was appointed as President of the National Centre for Quality Education.
“The Council of Education, headed by Sheikh Abdullah and with Sheikha Maryam as Vice-President, represents a guarantee of the stability and continuity of education plans and strategies,” said Sheikh Mohammed.
Other new appointments include Alia Abdulla AlMazrouei as minister of state for entrepreneurship, Sarah Al Amiri as minister of education, Abdulrahman Al Awar as acting minister of higher education and scientific research, Sheikh Mohammed said in his post.
